Jeff Utecht is an international teacher currently working in Shanghai, China. Prior to Shanghai, Jeff worked in Saudi Arabia and Washington State. Jeff uses blogging in his fourth grade class as a way to engage conversation with the students. He also uses blogging as silent reading time in his classroom to include reading blogs and web sites. Blogging helps his class hold conversations about writing, grammar, and about digital literacy. Also, the understanding of digital text. Blogging does not change good writing but, it allows the students to practice good writing in a new media.

Dr. Brucepk at Hsinchu International School in Taiwan uses blogging in his class as the students journals. They contain short, frequently updated post. He lets his students write about school or whatever is going on in their life. He says that this is a great way for students to get things off of their mind. The students feel more comfortable writing than actually sitting down and talking with the teacher or a counselor. He says he is going to stick with blogging because his students have all been successful with it.

International School of Kuala Lumpur is an independent and non profit school in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It has three divisions: elementary school, middle school, and high school. It was established in 1965. It is the first American curriculum in Malaysia. It was also the first fully accredited international school in Malaysia.
Each classroom at the school is equipped with at least one networked computer with Internet access. Additional stations at the libraries and computer labs accommodate student needs for computer resources. Each student is provided with an account with ISKL Online, a bulletin-board and e-mail system which they can use to collaborate on academic work, store files, discuss ongoing events, communicate with teachers, and access school-related materials from home. ISKL Online has also been known for its use of students in its administration, as ever since its introduction its moderation and maintenance has been assisted by selected student system operators. Computers are regularly used in courses as well as after-school activities and the production of publications.

The teachers at Goochland County Public Schools in Central Virginia
use blogs. The teachers are blogging because they feel that blogging is a great way to keep good communication between the students and the parents. Students feel more comfortable blogging than talking to their teachers in person. Blogging is also a good way for teachers to keep up with the students journals. Blogging lets the teacher and the parent communicate. This way the parent does not have to request a meeting and miss work. Research that they have done in the Goochland Public County Schools has shown the publication of blogs by students may help the students retain the information they are blogging about.

Mrs. Maher at Pocahontas Middle School blogs all of the time. She blogs to keep up with the new technology that is entering the schools around her. Through blogging, she keeps up with different training mini workshops going on. Through her blogs she has been able to keep up with different teachers photo stories, power points, and interactive websites to enrich classroom instruction. She also keeps up with the other teachers blogs to see if they have any new ideas to bring to the classroom.

Teachers in different high schools throughout the country are using a computer in their very own classroom. These computers have projection screens. They can project the material they are studying about and the students can follow along. They can project on the screen, vcr or computer dvd, create flip charts, and play games. Instructional flip charts can be saved also. Teachers can create and present power point presentations in their classroom. This helps the students retain the information because they have a visual of the material they are learning about.
Teachers can also create activities with hidden or revealed answers. The students always have fun with the games. One of the best motivators is games and competitions. This makes the student enjoy learning instead of them feeling like the material is being forced on them. This is a great way to keep the students interested.

Blog Assignment #2
ACCESS.doc

ACCESS stands for Alabama Connecting Classrooms, Educators, and Students Statewide. It provides opportunities and options for Alabama public high schools. Students can engage in advanced placement, elective, and other courses to which they may not have access to. ACCESS offers the following courses: English, social studies, different electives, math, science, foreign languages, health education, and reading comprehension.
If I work at a school that does not have many resources, I will use ACCESS. It gives students an opportunity to get the courses, teachers, and technology that will provide them with the knowledge and skills they need to graduate from high school, prepare to go to college, and/or the workforce.
I can merge my teaching with technology and share my information with other schools using this program. I will be able to monitor student progress and record grades. I will maintain communication with the distant learning staff. This could include teachers and counselors. What I like most of all is that all courses are taught at school during the regular school day. ACCESS is a FREE program to public high school students in Alabama.

ALEX.doc

ALEX stands for Alabama Learning Exchange. This program offers several different things. This website includes several different areas of study. It includes English/language arts, math, arts education, career/technical education, driver and traffic safety education, health education, science, social studies, foreign languages, physical education, and technology education. ALEX also has counseling and guidance.
ALEX offers a way to create your very own lesson plans. You can also click on a link on the website and find an ALEX lesson plan by author, title, or school. You can find a lesson by subject and by grade. ALEX offers web links for teachers, administration, and the students. ALEX is a great resource available for the students and the teachers.
When I start teaching, ALEX will be a great help to me. It will teach me how to create lesson plans or I could go on ALEX and print out a lesson plan that is already developed. I will search for different topics to present to the class. I could use ALEX from home or from school. All of the resources will always be available.
I could also look up a course of study for whatever grade I teach. The course of study provides information on the different subjects for each grade level. I will use ALEX to get info for online projects. ALEX has a personal workspace for teachers which allows them to store and share their lesson plans and useful web pages. I think that ALEX will be a great help to me when I become a teacher.
My name is Lindsey Pratt. I am 24 years old. This is my first semester at USA. I started college at Faulkner State Community College in 2002. I went there for 2 years, then I transferred to Bishop State Community College to their Nursing program. I did one semester in the nursing program. I failed one class by two points. I did reapply to the nursing program and they accepted me back in, but I decided to become a teacher instead. I really want to teach second grade. I know it is going to be tuff, but I am looking forward to it. I can't wait to start my new career.
